New Buccs Hoping practice will make perfect
With the start of the new season fast approaching, the Buccaneering boys are looking to take advantage of the break in the weather and get in some much needed on-track practice. So much so that the three newcomers of the 2010 side are making the journey across the Solent to take part in tomorrow night's session at the Smallbrook Stadium on the Isle of Wight. Danny Halsey, Karl Mason, and Kyle Howarth were quick to take advantage of the Islanders offer, with Howarth making the long trip down from Manchester to make contact with his new team mates. 2009 double winning Buccaneer Aaron Baseby will join them on the Island
The Buccaneers management will be hoping that the weather holds up until at least next weekend when the complete side gets together at Sittingbourne for some pre season team bonding as well as the all day practice.

Vatcher's Voice on 2010 Buccs
After last season's success, during which Bournemouth managed to lose on only five occasions, team manager Garry May and assistant Neil Vatcher are looking ahead to the new campaign and the tough challenge of defending the Buccaneers League and Cup success
" It looks as though the bar has been raised for 2010" said Vatcher "but Garry and I are more than happy with the team that we have put together. However, when you look at the other sides we could be in for a tougher year. We have been keeping in touch with Jay Herne since his crash in Australia some four weeks ago, and he tells us that his recovery is still on track and that he should be back in this country on the 6 March. Also returning to the Buccs fold are the Baseby brothers who are looking to up their game in the coming months. We know that Mark can improve on his 7.00 point average and feel that he will be pushing Jay hard for the No 1 racejacket."
"Brother Aaron, who was the unsung hero on many occasions last year, will also be looking to improve his scores. We know that there are some fans who say that he is only in the side because of his brother, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. He is there on merit and I don't think that there is a better 4.76 average rider anywhere else in the league. John Resch is another of the 2009 squad who deserves a further run in the Buccaneers colours. His dedication to the side is unquestionable, he was a real 100 per cent trier last year, and even when he wasn't riding, he was encouraging the others boys to go and win as many races as possible, With a guarantee of more regular rides, John will improve a lot this year and at just 17 years old could surprise many people."
" Like all title winning sides in speedway, we have had to make changes, but the three new boys we have brought in will soon prove to be great replacement. We are more than delighted to have signed two on full contract, with the third coming in on a year's loan deal. Dan Halsey, the former Rye House number one, joined us on a full contract shortly after the end of last season. We had targeted him as our major winter signing knowing that he is a top class National League rider and a small track specialist. He has a lot of experience for a 21 year old and we are sure that he will become a big hitter for us throughout the season. He's another one who could challenge Jay Herne for the number one spot in the side."
" The second rider to join us on a full contract is 16 years old Kyle Howarth. His signing is a major coup for the club as we believe he will become a star for the Buccaneers and could easily go on to ride for the Pirates in maybe three or four years time. Both Garry and I watched his progress during last year and it was hard to believe that he had only got on a bike for the first time in 2008. To finish runner up in both the Under 15 and Under 18 championships is quite something and just showsm how much talent he has. He comes in on a 3.72 and will be a big plus for us at reserve. And it's vital to have good reserves as we found out with Jerran Hart and Aaron Baseby last season."
"Our final signing is Karl Mason, who joins us on loan from Newport. Karl is a highly experienced rider who helped Weymouth to the league title in 2008. He will start the season as one of our second strings, but we are sure that he will prove a trump card for us in our title defence. He is already a proven point scorer on any track and will provide some great back up to our three heat leaders."
The season can't come quickly enough for us right now. All we want know is some dry weather so that we can get in some on-track practice and we will be ready for the off. Both Garry and I can assure the fans that we will be trying our hardest to retain both the league and cup silverware from last season and look forward to seeing everyone at the first match on Sunday 11 April against our 'auld enemy' those Wildcats from Weymouth. See you there and Come on the super Buccs."
Buccaneers and Pirates fans can also have the chance of meeting up with Buccaneers team manager Garry May and Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch, along with Davey Watt, Jay Herne and Mark Baseby, at a Fans Forum which is being held in the Champs Bar at Poole Stadium from 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday 10 March. After the forum the evening will evolve into a special supporters Mr & Mrs Competition where couples will be interrogated as to how much they know about each other. Tickets for the evening are £4 for REF Members and £5 for non-members.

Jay in Fitness Race
Buccaneer's top scorer in 2009 faces a race against time to be fit and ready for the forthcoming 2010 season. Injured in Australia during a Longtrack meeting Jay is nursing a serious knee injury and for those of a non-squeamish nature can view the injuries hereWARNING: Photographs are of a close-up of Jay's open wound.
Herne is planning to be fit to make his scheduled return to England with Bournemouth team manager Garry May hoping that the record-breaking Buccaneer will be ready to slot straight into the Bournemouth side once the action gets under way.

Kyle and Karl Complete the Buccs
Current National League speedway champions Bournemouth have completed their 2010 squad with the signings of two up and coming young English riders, Kyle Howarth and Karl Mason.

15 year old Howarth is an exciting and talented prospect who is tipped by many to become a future star in the sport. He gained invaluable experience while riding for Scunthorpe during 2009
and is already looking to improve still further during 2010, in what will only be his second season of league racing. He links up with the South Coast side on a full contract with his signing adding to the already significant Bournemouth asset base.
The more experienced Mason enjoyed a fairly successful 2009 campaign riding for the Newport Hornets, with the 23 year old ending the season with a more than useful 6.5 point match average.

"We are extremely pleased that both riders have agreed to ride for us" said Bournemouth team manager Garry May "The new side has a good look to it and is one that we feel will challenge strongly for the title in the coming season. Howarth is an extremely good young prospect, with a great deal of potential. However to help him acclimatise to the rigours of league racing, he will line up in one of the reserve berths for the opening matches although I expect him to be pushing for a full team place before too long. He’s more than pleased to have joined the club and is already looking to the start of the season.
“ Mason is a proven point scorer who will provide us with some excellent back up for our established heat leaders. He is certain to improve his average and we will be looking for him to add some extra strength to our middle order.
“ I am sure he will quickly settle in and become an important part of the Buccaneers set up.”

Second Baseby Signs On and Resch too
Mark Baseby will once again join forces with brother Aaron as the Bournemouth Buccaneers set out to defend their league and cup double. Aaron, along with Jay Herne and Daniel Halsey had previoulsy been announced as starters for 2010 and it has come as no major surprise that the impressive Mark has been re-called.
Mark enjoyed a good debut season for the Buccaneers despite carrying a niggling knee injury that hampered some of his performances but his distinct style and determination set him out from the rest on many occasions. Team bosses Neil Vatcher and Garry May both believe that Mark could increase his starting average of 7.00 by up to a point and a half if he can have a injury free run. Mark slots in to the third spot in the team, 0.15 behind Halsey and 3.16 below Herne with the Buccaneers also revealing that Jon Resch elevates from last year's number 8 slot into reserve on a 3 point average. Presently 16 years of age (Resch will be 17 by the start of the season) Jon gave a full 100% each time he was called on last season and earned himself the 2010 call-up.

Bournemouth Management Forced to Review Plans for 2010
Bournemouth Buccaneer's Assistant manager Neil Vatcher has issued the following official statement regarding the difficult situation that they found themselves in having to release Kyle Newman for the 2010 after the local lad featured in their initial plans.
The statement reads -
"After a successful 2009 season, Garry (May) and I sat down to make our plans and put together a competitive team ahead of the 2010 season. We knew the seven riders that we wanted and had them pencilled in. Very much included in that 7 was Kyle Newman. We knew that we had to work within the 42.50 points limit, and as far as we were concerned the chosen 7 fell just within that limit. During the week commencing the 1st of December, we learnt that three of our rider's green sheets averages had increased slightly, taking our combined total to half of one point above the 42.50 limit."
"During the next four days Garry and I spent many hours trying numerous permutations before eventually coming up with our final selection for the coming season. Obviously we desperately wanted to include Kyle and as many of the 2009 double winning team as we could but with the new averages in place found there was just no way we could stick to our original selections. In arriving at our final seven, we had to take the decision to drop Kyle Newman, who had played a huge part in making 2009 such a success for the Buccaneers."
"Making that decision was the hardest that we have ever had to make, as the 2009 side had become a close knit family with a great competitive spirit. However, we feel that we have now put together a side which will put stand us in good stead to retain the National League and Knockout Cup in 2010."
"We would like to take the opportunity to thank Kyle, and the other ex Buccaneers riders, for their efforts for the club in 2009, and wish them the very best of good fortune for 2010."

New Opponents for Bournemouth
The 2010 National Development League welcomes a new club in the guise of Dudley Heathen, the Black Country side having been admitted to the league to wrestle the title of the Britain's newest team away from the Bournemouth Buccaneers.

The brainchild of Sky TV Sports Presenter Nigel Pearson the Heathens will stir memories of the famous Cradley Heathens which was very much the driving force behind Pearson's plans "To see the Heathens back in regular league racing is what a lot of people have wanted for many years and we are delighted to carry the name of Dudley. As well as providing enjoyment for a lot of people we also want to see Cradley return on a full-time basis in the future and if this acts as a reminder to Dudley Council throughout the 2010 season then it has to be a winner." said Pearson. Pearson then explained that the Heathens will share their meetings at fellow Midland-based clubs Birmingham and Wolverhampton, adding "Thanks to the co-operation of Chris Van Straaten (Wolverhampton) and Gary Patchett (Birmingham) we are now able to realise the dream of seeing a Heathens team back in league action. Now it's down to the fans to show us their support and we hope the fans of Wolverhampton and Birmingham also adopt Dudley as their second team."

Heathens will race their home meetings at Wolverhampton on a Tuesday night but their Birmingham-staged meetings are likely to be on a Wednesday.

Danny Becomes A Buccaneer
Bournemouth Buccaneers have added a third name to their 2010 side with the announcement that Daniel Halsey will be linking up with them. Halsey joins the Bournemouth side after spending the 2009 NDL campaign with Rye House and is a rider that Bournemouth manager Garry May and his assistant Neil Vatcher have been watching with keen interest.

Vatcher told www.bournemouthspeedway.com "Daniel was the first rider on our 'wanted list' and we know that a number of other clubs were also interested in him for next season. But Daniel was quick to choose to ride for us and that is definitely the sort of attitude that we have been fostering at the club. Danny will be attending the REF function at the Champs Bar in January (13th) and I am sure the fans will want to make him very welcome at Wimborne Road"

Assistant team manager Neil Vatcher has announced the first two Buccaneers for the 2010 season, Bournemouth's second of their history by declaring that number one Jay Herne and promising reserve Aaron Baseby will be recalled. Out to defend their league and cup double of a highly successful 2009 season the Buccaneers had already lost the services of Jerran Hart when Mildenhall snatched him up leaving much speculation that Herne would be back.

The Australian who led the Buccaneers to those two major trophies will continue to ride in the Premier league in 2010 but feels he will still benefit from doubling up in the National Development league whilst Aaron Baseby demonstrated plenty of development especially over the final month or so of the campaign. Those performances made him a favourite amongst the Bournemouth management for a second term.
