Isle of Wight v Buccaneers (Challenge)
Bournemouth Buccaneers won their first ever meeting with an emphatic victory over Isle of Wight with local lad Kyle Newman marginally the pick of a very impressive Bournemouth crop. After winning heat two, with Aaron Baseby in tow to put the visitors ahead, Newman went on to claim two more race victories as well as backing up Jerran Hart in heat 4 to deliver a hugely encouraging debut from the reserve berth.
With six of the Buccaneers recording race wins and Aaron Baseby claiming two paid wins the sprightly Buccaneers proved much to strong for the Islanders who lost their way as the meeting unfolded. In fact over the final five heats of the challenge contest the visitors strongly underpinned their dominance conceding just 7 points two of which were bonus points attributed to Brendan Johnson's heat 14 tactical ride second place finish behind Newman who made an excellent pass to make the race win. Johnson's reward was more than Tom Brown, unbeaten at the time, could muster from heat 13 when the JH-bomb factor of Herne and Hart proved too hot to handle.
The Buccaneers can feel justifiably proud of their opening encounter particularly as the Islanders are expected to figure prominently one the league officially gets underway.
