Bournemouth Buccaneers v King's Lynn Barracudas

Bouremouth edged ahead against their toughest opponents thus far courtesy of comfortable, incident packed heat 2 reserves 5-1. Rhys Naylor rode through the tapes initially and was handicapped 15metres for the re-run. With Jerran Hart well clear Jake Knight lost control entering the third turn of the second leg whilst second place and although in close vicinity, Aaron Baseby skilfully avoided the fallen rider. It was a different story for Naylor though as he ploughed straight into his team-mate. With Knight disqualified the shaken Naylor, still on the handicap had to pick himself up for a further re-run and had no response to the Bournemouth pairing. The visitors though fought back progressively, despite Mark Baseby claiming the scalp of the more experienced Jamie Smith in heat 3. 4-2 advantages led by Darren Mallett in heat 4 and Adam Allott in heat 5 put the 'Cudas on level terms with a third of the meeting gone and there looking to be little to choose between the two sides
Until, the Buccaneers seemed to step up a gear and take control of the proceedings as Jay Herne (winner first time out) and Andrew Aldridge inflicted a 5-1 over Mallett and busy reserve Knight in heat 6. Smith was too strong for Newman in heat 7 but Hart, in third, was unchallenged by Lowe and no damage was done to the Buccaneers lead. Hart was much sharper in heat 8, coming in as a replacement for Aaron Baseby and with Aldridge again backing up the home side put breathing distance between the two sides. Heat 9 was memorable for two excellent rides by the Buccaneers, Luke Priest first of all getting by Mallett then Mark Baseby delivering a brilliant assault on Mallett to join his partner for another 5-1 for the home side.
King's Lynn invoked the tactical option for heat 10 and Smith gained a 6 point haul, Herne and Aldridge mitigating the damage by filling the other point scoring positions. Newman and Hart then paired up to restore a double figure lead before Hart combined with Priest to record a match-winning 5-1 immediately after the interval. Looking for a consolation point Adam Alott was awarded the black and white helmet colour and duly won but once again the Buccaneers sustained the on-slaught by occupying second and third. The Baseby brothers were out in heat 14 but it was Smith that showed early. Mark superbly made up for lost ground and hassled Smith on the second lap, biding his time before passing on the third circuit to extend the Buccaneers lead. Hart then sealed a personal good night with a heat 15 victory Smith getting the better of Mark Baseby this time out.
