Bournemouth Buccaneers v Scunthorpe Saints
Buccaneers busy reserve Jerran Hart roared to a 16 point haul as Bournemouth maintained their unbeaten run, but the 52-43 victory was far from a stroll in the park for the Dorset side who had to see out the latter stages without the services of local lad Kyle Newman who took an awkward fall in heat 11. Hart though was a winner of four of his six outings and only just missed out on completing a straight hat-trick of victories between heats 12 and 14 when tactical rider Simon Lambert, a Premier league team-mate of Hart, picked him off to give the visitors their second 7-2 advantage of the night. Indeed it was only Lambert on the Saints side that did get the better of the battling Buccaneer reserve, the visitors heavily reliant on the contributions of Lambert and Scott Richardson. Byron Bekker was the only other Saint to experience a race win round Wimborne Road whilst all the Buccaneers were at least paid for a win at sometime during this contest. The major talking point of the evening was the controversial heat 4 disqualification imposed on Kyle Newman as he was seeking to make headway around the outside going into the third turn. From the vantage point of the Grandstand it appeared that there might have been some contact as he tried to round Richardson, although the opinions on the terraces were that there was clear room between them. However, the opinion that counted was that of Dave Robinson and he had no doubts that Newman should be disqualified from the re-run and the Saints recorded a 4-2 advantage to make a statement of fact to the Buccaneeers that they weren't going to roll over after conceding a 5-1 in the previous heat. In the end though the Saints were only able to grab those two 7-2 advantages, when using the double points rule in heats 9 and 13, and a further 4-2 when Newman crashed awkwardly in heat 11 when a shared heat looked a near certainty as Hart and Newman had clear distance advantage on fourth place Howarth who had something of a luckless night himself for one so young.
