Bournemouth finished off the job they started down at Plymouth a couple of weeks ago with another impressive home win although the Devils were able to achieve something no other visiting side has managed so far on the Buccaneer's home patch and that was to go into a meeting lead. After starting with successive 4-2 heat advantages to build on their 8 point lead from the opening leg Bournemouth were suddenly pegged back by Plymouth when Danny Warwick packed up off the start and then Mark Baseby was disqualifed as he tried to find a way by Seemon Stephens but caused both to fall. The Devils then had the easiest 5-0 to edge ahead on the night by a single point and held that advantage with a share of heat 4.
Mark Baseby was involved in some more drama in heat 5, his determined efforts seeing him go under Mark Simmonds on the final lap and the experienced Devil went down. Referee Dave Watters decided that there was nothing untoward with the challenge and so Baseby was rewarded for a piece of excellent chasing and Simmonds fall allowed Warwick in for second place as the home side marched back in front.
They had no desire to let the lead slip again and steadiy outsmarted the visitors to record a 53-39 victory, with Jay Herne going through the card unbeaten, Andrew Aldridge dropping just the one point all night and Mark Baseby having that one disqualfication blob on an otherwise perfect return.
