A 50-39 victory against Newport in Wales on Bank Holiday Monday has assured the Castle Cover Buccaneers of the top place in the National Development league ahead of the end of season play-offs. With Kyle Newman and Jay Herne in fine form and a strong performance from reserve Aaron Baseby the Buccaneers overcame an early heat loss in race 2 to bag the first 5-1 of the meeting in heat 4 and thereafter never relinquish the lead to Newport who themselves had their sights on squeezing a top four placing but the home defeat has made a big dent in those aspiratons.
The Buccaneers met Newport on the day that Grant Tregoning, who has recently performed well for the Buccaneers not least in Friday's defeat by Plymouth, was somewhat out of form whilst Bournemouth without injured Mark Baseby and the unavailable Jerran Hart made light work of the testing conditons that caused a lengthy delay to the start of the meeting.
