A bright start to their cup final first leg up in Derbyshire has left the Buccaneers firmly in the driving seat to lift the National Development League KO Cup. The Baseby brothers delivered a 5-1 in the penultimate heat to arrest a late recovery from the Hitmen that has ensured Bournemouth go into the second leg with a slender advantage. In the early stages Bournemouth, much the better side all-round, looked as though they were going to run away with victory at the very same venue where they suffered their biggest league defeat but a couple of unforced errors by the Buccaneers and a tactical ride by Mudgeway closed the meeting up to just a one point difference with two heats remaining. The Baseby boys though delivered maximum points despite a non-too comfortable ride from younger sibling Aaron in heat 14 and with Jay Herne sneaking second place from Mudgeway in heat 15 the Buccaneers came out 48-44 winners on the day
